Artist’s Statement

I live in the only true urban area in Tucson, Arizona. A place where you can walk to everything! Dinner, bars, galleries, shops, coffee . . . just everything. With all of the excitement of living in a desert city everything seems to be in abundance except for water. My thirst is to reuse unwanted and discarded items into something genuine and true to my being. I go out of my way to find the right materials before they end up in the landfill and repurpose them in order to create this body of work. Not all of my work is recycle based, I also work with virgin materials when the outcome dictates it. The process is what keeps us going and the outcome is what keeps us coming back.

My work explores the boundaries that I encounter in my daily life and the force it takes to go beyond these boundaries. I push myself and my work constantly through the walls that define a particular moment in time. I am always fighting my way out of this box, only to find another box just beyond. This process of molding and defining, then remolding and redefining my art helps me to find and define my own voice. While some people call me eclectic, I see it as a vision, a path. Something I don't have control over. Something I just have to do, to create. Then, just then can I move on.
